断路器跳闸， 无外乎以下五种原因，结合实际情况判断，即可了解、发现、解决故障。注意：在检修电路时，一定要保证上一级断路器处于断开状态。
原因一：过载
过载保护，是断路器的一项基本功能，任何断路器，都有这项功能。
过载保护，指的是电路中的电流，超过了断路器预定的数值。比如，断路器预定值为16A，而电路中的实际电流为17A，此时，断路器就会自动跳闸。
这个16A是怎么选出来的呢?这是根据插座、电线、用电器等断路器保护对象的能承受最大电流决定的。
未加附件的断路器，几乎可以确定是电路过载;添加的附件的断路器，要观察附件是否有变化，如果附件无变化，则也是由于电路过载。
电路过载的原因，是电路中同时使用的用电器总功率过大。此时， 只要将大功率用电器移除电路，或减少用电器数量，再合闸即可。
原因二：短路
广义来讲，短路属于过载的一种极端现象。
短路是指零火线，未经过用电器，直接接触到了一起。此时，会产生巨大电流(无穷大)，这种电流，不仅能够瞬间烧毁用电器，电死电伤用户也是分分钟的事。
因此，如果出现这种情况，一定要保持断路器断开状态，直至故障被解决。
那么，怎么能确定是这种问题呢?如果出现电器插头被烧黑，插座被烧黑或有火花冒出，或拔下所有插头后，断路器依然跳闸，则可以断定电路中存在短路故障。
原因三：漏电
此时要说到断路器最常用的一种附件——漏电保护器。这个附件，具有漏电保护功能， 即当电路中出现漏电现象时，断路器就会自动跳闸。
加了附件的断路器，会同时拥有断路器本身的功能和附件的功能呢。那么，怎么判断断路器是由于过载跳闸的还是由于漏电跳闸的呢?
此时就要看附件的状态。最常见的一种附件， 附件上有一个“复位按钮”，按钮旁边有文字标注。这个按钮，在正常情况下，与断路器外壳处于同一平面，但是一旦电路中发生漏电，这个按钮就会突出。而且，直接合闸是合不动的，只有按下这个按钮，才能再合闸。
如果跳闸后产生了这种情况，则证明是由于电路中存在漏电故障，否则，则要考虑其它故障。
原因四：欠压
除了常见的漏电保护器附件以外， 还有一种附件，叫做“欠电压脱扣器”，顾名思义，就是当电压过低时，自动跳闸。
这个附件，一般安装于电压不稳定的地方，是防止电器在低电压条件下超负荷运行，以免烧毁电器的。但是用这个东西有个烦恼， 就是一停电就跳闸。
在欠电压脱扣器附件上，会有一个和漏电保护器一样的复位按钮，当跳闸后该按钮突出， 则证明电路中存在欠压故障。
此时，只要等待电压稳定后，直接合闸即可。
原因五：过压
除了欠压脱扣器，还有一种叫做“过欠电压脱扣器”，多了一种功能，即电压过高时，断路器依然跳闸。
过欠电压脱扣器跳闸后，同样会有复位按钮。但是，此时无法看出，是由于电压过高跳闸还是电压过低跳闸，但可以肯定是由于电压不稳定。
此时，同样是等待电压稳定后，直接合闸即可。
