电力是以电能作为动力的能源。电力行业关系着国计民生的基础性支柱产业，与国民经济发展息息相关。当前我国经济持续稳定发展，工业化进程稳步推进，对电力的需求必然日益增长。近年来，我国发电量保持增长，从2012年的约4.8万亿千瓦时到2017年的约6.3万亿千瓦时，我国发电量实现了30%的增长。其中，2017年全国发电量6.3万亿千瓦时，比上年增长5.9%。据最新数据显示，今年以来发电量约为6.1万亿千瓦时。其中，11月发电量5543.0亿千瓦时，同比增长3.6%，增速比上月回落1.2个百分点;日均发电184.8亿千瓦时，环比增加12.9亿千瓦时。
数据来源：中商产业研究院大数据库全国全社会用电量保持增长，2015-2017年间的涨幅不断扩大。2017年，全社会用电量63077亿千瓦时，同比增长6.6%。今年以来，全社会用电增速同比提高。1-11月，全国全社会用电量6.22万亿千瓦时，同比增长8.5%，增速比上年同期提高2.0个百分点。
