12月11日，乌东德电站送电广东广西特高压多端直流示范工程全面开工建设。这是世界首个特高压多端混合直流输电工程，工程建成后直接将云南清洁水电输送到两广地区，对促进西部清洁能源消纳，实现资源优化配置，服务粤港澳大湾区建设等具有重要意义。
乌东德电站送电广东广西特高压多端直流示范工程，简称“昆柳龙直流工程”，是国家“十三五”规划明确的跨省区输电重点示范工程。工程西起云南昆明，落点分别为广西柳州、广东惠州，采用±800千伏三端混合直流技术，送电规模达800万千瓦，直流线路全长1489千米，计划于2020年投产送电，2021年全部建成投产。工程建成后，每年可送电320亿度，相当于减少燃煤消耗920万吨，减排二氧化碳2450万吨。
作为世界首个特高压多端混合直流工程，昆柳龙直流工程集目前最复杂、最前沿的电网技术于一体。工程建设也创造了多项世界第一：世界上容量最大的特高压多端直流输电工程、世界上首个特高压多端混合直流工程、世界上首个特高压柔性直流换流站工程、世界上首个具备架空线路直流故障自清除能力的柔性直流输电工程。
据介绍，相比常规特高压直流，特高压多端混合直流输电将大幅降低新能源发电输送系统的整体成本，有助于将清洁能源输送得更远、更平稳。昆柳龙工程的建设实施对提升我国电力装备技术水平，带动我国特高压柔性直流及多端混合直流关键设备的自主研发，也具有里程碑意义。
目前，南方电网公司已经形成了“八条交流、十条直流”共18条500千伏及以上西电东送大通道，最大送电能力超过5000万千瓦。在此基础上，昆柳龙直流工程采用更经济、运行更为灵活的多端直流系统，有助于发挥多个受端电网在消纳能力、调峰能力、系统安全稳定风险防控方面的优势，不仅将进一步促进云南水电消纳，而且将对风、光等新能源的大规模开发利用起到示范作用。同时，这些电将直接服务粤港澳大湾区经济建设，以及对未来西南水电及新能源的大规模外送将起到示范作用。
